Introducing Takihei Ellacott, Tahitian surfer and young abysse mermaid with a heart as big as the ocean. Hailing from Bora Bora, conquering surfing Teahupo'o as her surf challenge, and caring for the islands she calls home, Takihei is the leader of a new generations of mermaids that push the boundaries of their sport while deeply rooted in following their dreams and passion through the ocean.

Can you tell us your name and how old you are?

Hi, I’m Takihei. I was born in Tahiti and raised in Bora Bora. I’m 14 years old.

Where do you live, and what’s your favorite thing about it?

I live between Tahiti and Bora Bora. Growing up surrounded by island life is really important to me it’s all about authenticity and simplicity.

Do you remember when you first started surfing? How did it feel?

My first experience with surfing was (really young) on the motu, where the waves roll over the reef. It was more about playing and having fun with my family than actual surfing.

What do you love most about being in the ocean?

The ocean is a part of who I am. I learned to swim just like I learned to walk, that’s how it is when you grow up on the islands. The ocean is pure and powerful. It’s given me some of my happiest moments, but also some of my scariest. It teaches me everything. My connection with the ocean is truly special.

Are there any surfer girls you really look up to?

I admire all surfer girls, but the most stylish one for me is Bettylou.

Do you think the ocean is the best playground ever? Why?

The ocean is definitely the best playground, you can surf, snorkel, paddle, fish, dive, and so much more.

What’s your favorite Abysse piece to wear when you’re surfing or playing in the water?

My favorite Abysse piece to surf in is the Hawkins bodysuit. It’s super comfortable.

What makes someone an “Abysse girl” in your eyes?

Being an Abysse girl means loving the ocean and living the beach life. It’s something real, it’s a vibe. I’m really honored to be part of this tribe.

Is it important to you that the brands you wear help take care of the planet and the ocean?

It’s important to wear brands that help protect the planet.

Do you have a fun or funny story from surfing or being in the ocean you’d love to share?

Some of the best and funniest moments I have in the ocean are during free surf sessions with friends, trying to catch each other on the waves.

Where’s your favorite surf spot, and why do you love it so much?

I love surfing Teavaiti because it’s a right and always super fun waves.

Do you have a goal for 2025 or in general?

Over the past two years, I’ve been through a rollercoaster, from injuries to tough times. That’s why my goal for 2025 is to focus on happiness in surfing and to get the best results I can in my first year on the QS tour. No pressure!

Mauru'uru Abysse for giving me the chance to share a bit of our island style.
