Abysse Wetsuit Care
Wetsuit Care
Abysse wetsuits are crafted from premium Yamamoto Japanese limestone neoprene with recycled linings and designed to deliver exceptional flexibility, warmth, and comfort in the water.
This neoprene is exceptionally soft, lightweight, and flexible by design. With a little extra care, your wetsuit will maintain its performance and extend its lifespan for many seasons to come.
Putting On Your Wetsuit
- Take your time when putting on your wetsuit. Never use the zipper to pull the suit into place.
- Ensure the wetsuit is fully positioned on your body before closing the zipper.
- Support the base of the zipper with one hand while gently pulling the zipper with the other to reduce stress on the zipper and its stitching.
- Use the flats of your fingers rather than your fingernails to adjust the neoprene. Sharp nails and jewellery can puncture or tear the material.
- Avoid standing on your wetsuit while changing, especially on rough surfaces.
After Every Session
- Rinse your wetsuit thoroughly inside and out with fresh, cool water after every use.
- Salt, sand, sunscreen, body oils, and chlorine can gradually break down the materials if left on the suit.
- If your wetsuit has been used in a chlorinated pool, rinse it immediately after use. Prolonged exposure to chlorine may reduce the elasticity of the neoprene and accelerate fading of the fabric colours.
Washing
- Occasionally soak your wetsuit in cool water with a wetsuit-specific cleaner or a gentle wool wash.
- This helps remove salt build-up, bacteria, and odours while keeping the neoprene soft and supple.
- Never machine wash, tumble dry, use bleach, fabric softeners, or harsh detergents.
Drying
- Turn your wetsuit inside out first to dry the lining before turning it right side out to finish drying the exterior.
- Always dry your wetsuit in the shade.
- When the wetsuit is wet, either fold it over a wide drying rail or bar at the waist, or hang it on a wide-shoulder wetsuit hanger specifically designed to support the weight of neoprene.
- Avoid narrow or wire hangers, which can permanently stretch the shoulders.
- Never dry your wetsuit in direct sunlight, near heaters, radiators, or in a tumble dryer.
Storage
- Only store your wetsuit once it is completely dry.
- Avoid leaving it folded in the boot of a hot car, in a damp pile after surfing, compressed under heavy gear, or exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods.
- Proper storage helps preserve the flexibility of the neoprene and the integrity of the seams.
Zipper & Velcro Care
- After each use, rinse the zipper and Velcro closure with fresh water to remove salt and sand.
- Always fasten the Velcro closure before storing or transporting your wetsuit. An open Velcro tab can catch on the neoprene, seams, and fabric lining, causing unnecessary wear or damage over time.
- Never force the zipper. If it feels tight, check that the wetsuit is properly fitted before pulling it closed.
Protect Your Wetsuit
- Take care around rough surfaces such as rocks, concrete, asphalt, Velcro, and sharp objects.
- If your wetsuit develops a small tear, puncture, or loose seam, have it repaired promptly. Early repairs help prevent water from penetrating between the neoprene and lining, reducing the risk of delamination and extending the life of your wetsuit.
Built for the Ocean
- Every Abysse wetsuit is designed to deliver premium comfort, warmth, and freedom of movement in the water.
- With proper care, your wetsuit will continue to perform beautifully season after season.
- If you have any questions about caring for your wetsuit or need advice on repairs, our team is always happy to help.
Pro Tip
- Never leave your wetsuit rolled up in your surf bag after a session. Rinse it as soon as possible and allow it to dry thoroughly in the shade. Proper rinsing and drying are the easiest ways to maximise the life and performance of your wetsuit.
